Somehow I made it through 4 years of film school without seeing what many would call essential titles, despite watching almost a film a day for 6 years. A shock, I know. But my tastes run all over the place, as far as exploratory film excursions go. Most of the “new” films I see these days are at the New Beverly.

Anyway, this is my attempt to beef up my basic film education, because nothing is a better teacher.

The bulk of the list is from 3 sources: A) The IMDB top 250 2) The BFI top 100 C) General titles that have been recommended to me over the years but I have yet to investigate. That’s where you guys come in. Are there films you love that I probably haven’t seen? Recommend them and I’ll add them to the supplementary list. Bonus points if they’re silent era, foreign, or trippy art films.
